John Glossop – Landscape Artist
In addition to painting, I have a lifelong interest in countryside and mountain walking and also cycling. My walking and cycling trips have mainly been made in Britain, Europe and North America. I always take a camera to record the most interesting and unusual views and landscape features, partly for the purpose of interpreting them in an artwork when I get home. Thus photographs do form the basis of most of my work, but I do not copy them slavishly: the images are used as a starting point, and small or moderate changes are made as thought desirable to help convey the essence of what I feel is important about the subject. In addition, I work in several art media, and the one used in a particular work is usually chosen to best assist in achieving this end.
